CLARION, Iowa - An attempted abduction hasn't been reported in the town of Clarion in at least a decade, that was until last week and the offender is still likely roaming the community.

Police said it happened in the 700 block of 4th Street Northwest. A woman who lives in the area said her child, along with three others, was targeted.

"It was a scary deal," the woman, who did not want to be identified, told Channel 13. "We just started letting our kids go play and now we have to be more careful."

The woman said that on July 1st, the children - between the ages of 4 and 12 years old - were coaxed into a car by 19-year-old Victor Gomez. "He tried to lure them in with candy, tried to wave them in and talk to them and that god the kids around here know better not to go where their not supposed to go."

When police were called, Gomez took off running. He was found about an hour later hiding in a trailer home. The man was arrested and charged with enticing a minor, trespassing and interfering with official acts. Gomez lives in the same neighborhood as where the attempted abduction took place.

Gomez posted bond and police aren't sure where he is. As a result, police are increasing their patrols around town.

"Watch our parks, watch our pool area cause that's where a lot of our kids are. Just kinda keep tabs on where everybody's at and what's going on," said Shayne Hennigar, Assistant Police Chief.

One of the victim's mothers said her daughter now suffers from nightmares and anxiety. Her message to other parents is to always keep an eye on your children, no matter how safe you think your neighborhood is.
