Rachel Gowey in 12th After First Night of Gymnastic Olympic Trials

SAN JOSE, CA – Urbandale’s Rachel Gowey is a long shot to make the US women’s Olympic gymnastic team, but Gowey has already accomplished her dream of making the Olympic Trials.

After the first day of competition it doesn’t look like it will happen.  Gowey, who recently graduated from Johnston, sits in 12th place.

5 Gymnasts make Team USA, with 3 alternates.

World Champion Simone Biles is in first place after the first night of competition.  All-around gold medalist Gabby Douglas struggled on night 1 of the trials, Gabby sits in 7th.

Gowey and the rest of the gymnasts will compete again Sunday night on NBC.
