New Information Released Following Report of Shooting in Ames

AMES, Iowa – Police in Ames have released new information as they continue to investigate a report of a shooting early Sunday morning.

At approximately 6 a.m. Sunday, Ames police responded to the Story County Medical Center in Nevada regarding a report of a male who was being treated for a gunshot wound. According to the victim and a witness, they were walking near Hayward Avenue and Knapp Street at approximately 3:30 a.m. when an unidentified person fired several gunshots at them.

The victim was transported to the Story County Medical Center.

Police said they were unable to locate a crime scene after canvassing the area. There were no reports of shots fired in the area.

The victim, Khalil Harris, 23, of Des Moines, suffered non-life threatening injuries during the incident. Harris refused to speak to an investigator and provided a false name during the investigation.

Police said based on their preliminary investigation, it doesn’t appear a shooting took place. They are continuing their investigation into the claim.
