STEAMBOAT ROCK, Iowa -- Storms barreled through the town of Steamboat Rock early Sunday morning and residents said around 4 a.m., they heard whipping winds and branches snapping outside.

When they stepped outside, they saw the damage left behind first hand.

"When I was told I had a tree on my house, I figured it was one of the other ones, I did not in a million years think it would be this one," said Emily Eckheart.

Eckheart is currently remodeling her home and was staying just outside of town when she got the call about a tree being on her roof.

The damage was a lot worse up close as a large cottonwood was uprooted from the ground and crashed into her home, barely missing her gas tank.

Across town, it wasn't hard to spot damage. Windows were broken out of businesses and the school had part of its roof ripped off.

Most residents are spending the day cleaning up and say when something like this happens, everyone pitches in to help.

Although the storms were pretty bad, there were no reported injuries which residents say is a blessing.

Even though the storms happened early Sunday, residents say it will take all week to clean up it all up.
