WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — The memorial outside of the West Des Moines Police Department continues to grow for  Officer Shawn Miller, who was killed in a traffic accident Wednesday in Dallas County.

Miller, a 26-year veteran of the police department, was riding his motorcycle southbound on Highway 169 near the westbound I-80 on-ramp when a northbound car turned in front of him. Miller’s motorcycle struck the passenger side of the vehicle and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, 38-year-old Jeanette Keifer of Stratford, was not injured in the accident. The Iowa State Patrol says the investigation into the crash continues and charges are pending.

Officials say though Miller was off Wednesday, he was traveling back from testifying in a criminal case in Adel when the crash occurred.

A memorial fund has been established for Miller, click here for details.
