DES MOINES, Iowa — A renovation project with a multi-million dollar price tag could make Water Works Park a music destination once again.

The 1,500 acre park used to host a variety of events and concerts but organizers were often forced to relocate due to excessive flooding in the area.

According to the Des Moines Register, officials now want to make the space into a dual-stage amphitheater to bring music back to the park. They would locate the amphitheater in a place less prone to flooding and it could open next year.

Officials are also pushing to add a welcome center, a space for food trucks, and a tunnel that connects the park to Gray’s Lake.

Those projects wouldn’t start until 2018.
