DES MOINES, Iowa -- In the agriculture building at the Iowa State Fair, people are again waiting in line to see an animal made of butter.

The Butter Cow weighs about 600 pounds and was sculpted by Sarah Pratt.

It's accompanied by butter Star Trek characters, marking the series' 50th anniversary.

Many say the sculptures are an important part of their fair visits and some first-time visitors agree.

“I grew up in Vermont and I moved here for work,” said a first-time fairgoer. “My mother is visiting me and we're very interested in Iowa state agriculture and Iowa culture so we're standing in line to look at the butter cow."

Pratt became the fair's fifth butter sculptor in 2006.
