DES MOINES, Iowa -- Police have released the name of a man who was found shot Tuesday night on Des Moines’ southeast side.

Des Moines police say they were called to the 300 block of East Jackson Avenue around 10:15 p.m. When they arrived officers found Oscar Gonzalez, 21, on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Gonzalez was taken to the hospital for surgery and at last check was in critical condition.

Police say they don’t have a suspect in custody in the case and the shooting could be gang-related.

Neighbor Blake Hartzell says recently his home was broken into by gang members. He and his girlfriend have been living on edge ever since.

“It’s pretty nerve-wracking, we got broken into a couple months ago. I find myself watching my back on my own block ya know,” said Hartzell.

Police spent hours looking for evidence in the area. They did find a bloody towel in the area.

The case remains under investigation.
