Victim in Critical Condition after Des Moines Shooting Incident

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines police are investigating a shooting on the city's southeast side.

Around 10:15 Tuesday night, officers were called to 307 Jackson Avenue. There they found  man lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to the hospital for surgery and at last check police say he was in critical condition.

Investigators say they have no witnesses and are  still trying to identify the suspect.  They believe the incident could be gang - related. Neighbors  say they wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

Blake Hartzell says the home where he and his girlfriend live was recently  broken into by gang members known as the "Latin Kings."

"It's pretty nerve-wracking. We got broken into a couple months ago. I find myself watching my back on my block ya know," he said.

Hartzell says his girlfriend heard three to four shots and are now considering moving out of the neighborhood.

The victim's name or age is not being released at this time.
