DES MOINES, Iowa -- A motorcyclist who was critically injured in a crash Monday afternoon has now died.

Des Moines police say 52-year-old Michael Murrell was driving northbound on Indianola Avenue at East Porter Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when his motorcycle hit a car that turned in front of him.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old Sergio Ancona III, told officers he did not see the motorcycle before he turned.

Police say speed and impairment were not factors in the crash. Ancona has been charged with failure to yield right of way.

Murrell was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was transported to Methodist Hospital where he died overnight.

The investigation into the crash continues.
