DES MOINES, Iowa -- Gov. Terry Branstad is asking Iowans to remember a general and former friend Thursday.

He's ordered flags across the state be flown at half-staff in honor of Major General Warren "Bud" Lawson, a former Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard. The Ankeny-native died Aug. 10 at the age of 83.

Branstad says he and Lawson became friends during his early years in office.

Lawson will be laid to rest Thursday. His funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Camp Dodge Pool Pavilion in Johnston. Burial will follow at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter.

The Iowa National Guard will be on hand to provide full military honors.
