JASPER COUNTY, Iowa — Search crews Thursday afternoon located the body of a Newton man who had been missing since Sunday night.

67-year-old Mike McDaniels originally told family members he was going fishing along the South Skunk River on Sunday.

His fishing gear and truck had later been found along the river but he was nowhere to be found, initially.

The body of McDaniels was pulled from the Skunk River near the location of his gear at approximately 12:45 p.m. Thursday by Jasper County Authorities.

An autopsy has been ordered by the Jasper County Medical Examiner.
