BOONE, Iowa -- For Larry Iddings and friends, the trip to Ledges State Park came on a hot last day of summer. His group was walking the creek bed in Ledges Canyon.

“Enjoying it out here,” said Iddings, who works at Broadlawns Hospital. “Since the weather is going to be 92 down here it still feels cool.”

The group did not mind getting their feet wet as the mercury was heading towards the 90’s by mid-morning.

“I try to make the trip here about once a year,” said Iddings. “Sweet place to be, good scenery, the sound of the water is beautiful.”

Nearby at Big Creek State Park Diana Harris of Sheldahl was taking her granddaughter out on the lake to learn to Kayak.

“I’ve never been kayaking, I think it looks like fun,” said Ella Husk of Polk City.

“This is only the second time with my blowup kayak,” said Harris “So you have to kind of work at doing your oars together."
