One Arrested After Motorcycle Chase Ends in Cornfield

ALTOONA, Iowa — One person was taken into custody by police after an early morning motorcycle chase.

Twenty-five-year-old Jeffrey Schlegel is now facing charges of felony eluding, interference with official acts, and violation of probation.

The chase started just before 3:00 a.m. near 31st and Kingman. Police say Schlegel got on I-235 and led officers east through the metro on to I-80, then exited in Altoona.

The chase eventually came to an end when Schlegel ran the bike into a cornfield at Northeast 70th and University, just west of Southeast Polk High School. Police say he tried to flee but police were able to catch him and arrest him.

The female passenger on the motorcycle was not arrested.
