WAUKEE, Iowa — A common household item is to blame for a fire in Waukee Monday evening.

” I was just panicking,” said resident Rochelle Blanchard. “I just knew it was going to be bad because you could hear it cracking and it was so high and the flames were so big.”

Blanchard says she noticed the smell of smoke while doing laundry at her home on Kaylin Drive.

She immediately called 9-1-1.

When Waukee firefighters arrived, they could see smoke coming from the second floor of the home.

Around 12 firefighters could be seen going into the house.

Some even trying to break through the exterior of the second floor…

“What they are doing is making sure the fire can get up into the attic and into the wall space so they are just making sure we don’t come back in an hour for more fire,” said Tomme Tysdale,┬áCaptain of the Waukee Fire Department.

Luckily, no one was injured in the fire.

At the time, fire officials did not have a damage estimate from the fire. Investigators do believe the fire was caused by the home’s dryer.
