DES MOINES, Iowa – Emergency crews were called to the city’s southwest side early Thursday morning after a 12-year-old was hit by a car while crossing the street.
At approximately 7 a.m., Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Des Moines Fire Department medics responded to the intersection of SW 9th Street and Davis Avenue to investigate a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Responding officers found 12-year-old Josef Robert Ries Fuller of Des Moines suffering from serious injuries he received after being struck by a car. Des Moines Fire Deptartment medics transported the child to Iowa Methodist Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Fuller was struck by a southbound car, operated by 25-year-old Samantha Bothwell of Des Moines, as he crossed SW 9th Street, west to east. The child was the only person injured in the crash.
