TAMA COUNTY, Iowa – The case of a woman missing since 2000 from Tama has been re-classified as a homicide investigation.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says 23-year-okld Cora Okonski did not leave of her own free will in April of 2000. The Iowa Cold Case website says Okonski was living with her fiancé and her two-year-old son at the time of her disappearance.

The fiancé told investigators Okonski left their home during the evening of April 16th, 2000 to walk to a nearby store and purchase cigarettes. He said that was the last time he saw her.

Agents with the DCI, Iowa Attorney General’s Office, Tama County Sheriff’s Office, Tama Police Department, and the Tama County Attorney’s Office all worked together on the cold case.
