DES MOINES, Iowa – One person died after being pulled from a burning home on the city’s east side early Monday morning.

Fire crews were called to the home at 1423 E. 9th Street around 4:16 a.m. Firefighters found an unconscious elderly man inside the home. The man, who was later identified as Stanley Strock, was taken to a Des Moines hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Firefighters say they did not hear any smoke detectors going off when they arrived on scene. The fire appears to have started on the back side of the home.

Strock was the only one inside the home when the fire began.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
