PELLA, Iowa -- Christmas season kicked off in Pella Monday with the event called De Kerstdagen, or tour of stores. But first they had to put the Christmas tree up, again.

Pella Chamber of Commerce Director Karen Eischen said that was on her list of things to do Monday, after winds from a few days back knocked the Christmas Tree over.

Several youth and high school choirs sang Christmas songs in the brisk evening air before county down the lighting of the tree.

Between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. stores were all decked out in Pella, with refreshments.

The clop of horse-drawn carriage rides could be heard, and a  there was search for the Crystal Tulip.  Whoever finds the tulip wins a cash prize.

The event is to help encourage people to shop local.
