VAN METER, Iowa — The snow and frigid temperatures forecast for this weekend won’t stop volunteers from honoring veterans.

“We understand there will be some snow…we know it’s going to be cold…but the first year we did this in 2008 we actually had to shovel the snow away from several of the headstones in order to put the wreaths out so it’s not as bad as in 2008,” said Patrick Palmersheim.

The group will place more than 2,800 wreaths on the headstones at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

The effort is part of Wreaths Across America and anyone can help out. Volunteers are asked to show up Saturday morning at 11:00.

A short ceremony will be held beforehand.
