IOWA  --  In the 1970s, Iowa Governor Robert Ray welcomed thousands of Tai Dam refugees to Iowa as they tried to escaped the atrocities in southeast Asia.

During that time, many refugees were dying or also being separated from their families.

Channel 13 asked Governor Ray's former chief of staff what leaders can learn now from what the governor did back then.
