    The West Des Moines Fire Department is getting ready for the annual Citizens Fire Academy. The eleventh annual Citizens Fire Academy program will delve into in-depth teaching and training on the fire department and fire safety.   • SATISFIED CITY: Johnston Survey Finds Happy Residents

    A new community survey has the city of Johnston ranked above the national average. The survey rated Johnston higher than the national average in 37 of the 45 assessed areas, including quality of city services, overall safety of the city, city trails and overall cleanliness. The survey found 90 percent of its residents are satisfied with their quality of police protection while 88 percent are satisfied with the quality of fire protection.  84 percent of residents surveyed said they were […]

  • SLICK ROADS: Light Snow, Slippery Driving Conditions

    Despite the snow, the roads weren’t all that bad on Saturday afternoon, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation website. Most of the roads are considerably wet but there are roads in eastern Iowa still partially covered in snow. But with just a little precipitation on the ground, there were still plenty of vehicles in the ditches after skidding and slipping off the slick roads.  Two lost control on Interstate-35 between Ankeny and Des Moines.
