50 YEARS: Vietnam Vets’ Memorial Day Honor

The Iowa National Guard is marking the Memorial Day holiday a little early.

It’s holding a command retreat at the Camp Dodge pool complex at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Soldiers will honor Vietnam veterans as part of the Department of Defense’s 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War program.

All area Vietnam War veterans and their families are invited to attend.

The Fort Des Moines Museum is also holding a ceremony of remembrance. It’s at 12 p.m. Thursday, in the museum’s historic chapel.

The event will also include a special tribute to fallen troops.
