WASHINGTON, D.C. –The death of Freddie Gray, who suffered a severe spinal injury in his arrest by Baltimore police and died a week later, sparked violent protests in Baltimore this week.

The incident may prompt Sen. Charles Grassley to ask the Justice Department to review all cases in which minorities died at the hands of police.

In a statement Tuesday, Grassley said “Excessive force by law enforcement is a very serious issue that deserves a thoughtful and judicious approach. The judiciary committee staff has begun to look at how best we can or should address it.”

Grassley goes on to say that people have every right to protest peacefully, but rioting and assaulting police officers is not justified.
