A memorial service has been scheduled for a Webster County teenager whose body was found last week.

Kathlynn Shepard was abducted from a bus stop in the town of Dayton on May 20th. Her body was pulled from the Des Moines River on Friday and identified Sunday.

A memorial service will be held this Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Southeast Webster Grand Middle School in the town of Boxholm.

Monday the Dayton Community gathered to pay tribute to Kathlynn at a tree of hope lighting ceremony.

The tree was strung with purple lights Kathlynn’s favorite color and now stands as a focal point for all those who enter the Dayton community from the northwest. Community members say it will serve two purposes: to always remember Kathlynn and to urge lawmakers to make changes to laws regarding sentencing of sex offenders.
