COLO, Iowa – Law enforcement officials say two people are dead following a murder-suicide in Colo Wednesday morning.
The Story County Sheriff’s Office identified the couple as 79-year old Richard Davis and 78-year old Charlotte Davis. The two were married.
Capt. Nicholas Lennie with the Story County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to 206 Oak St. after a family member called 911 about two possibly deceased people at the residence around 9:30 a.m. Emergency responders found the elderly couple dead.
Capt. Lennie said it appears a gun was involved in the incident. He says the violence was confined to the home and there is no threat to the public. Capt. Lennie says he knows of no other calls to the home in the past.
He said Colo is a tight knit community. “Incidents like this bring about more questions than they do answers so its very tough to process for everybody. And just knowing the community, I know they’re gonna pull together and support everybody to get through this” says Capt. Lennie.
The Iowa DCI will be a part of the investigation.
Colo First Responders and Fire Department as well as Story County Medical also assisted at the scene.
