GAS TAX: Branstad Says Legislative Support Growing

Prices at the pump may be going up in Iowa and it doesn’t have anything to do with the price of crude oil.

Gov. Terry Branstad says he’s seeing legislative support for a gas tax increase in the next legislative session. Branstad says the public likely would also support an increase if it’s tied to decreases in property and income taxes.

Branstad favors an eight-to-ten cent per gallon increase over three years.

The money would be used to fund road construction projects.
