The kick-off event for the Drake Relays was a chilly one; Grand Blue Mile runners braved the 30 degree wind chill to race through downtown Des Moines.

Most runners were bundled in warm running gear, but we caught up with one who seemed to be missing a essential item of clothing, his shoes.

Dave Wolz says he’s been barefoot since 1997, he doesn’t own shoes because he doesn’t believe in them.

With one blue foot in front of the other Wolz was the last to cross the finish line, but the first barefoot runner to take part in the race.

5,280 feet without shoes...we think that`s quite the feat.
