IOWA CITY, Iowa – Hawkeye defensive back Desmond King has now been named a First-Team All-American by both the Associated Press and USA Today.

The Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year was honored by the AP on Sunday after being named a First-Team All-American by USA Today on Dec. 8.

King is the first Hawkeye defensive player in the Kirk Ferentz era to be named an AP First-Team All-American.

The junior has posted 67 tackles and 12 passes defended in 13 games played. He’s also tied the single-season school record with eight interceptions this year.

Center Austin Blythe also made the third team.

No. 5 Iowa will be heading to the Rose Bowl to face No. 6 Stanford on Jan. 1.
